About a motorcycle helmet and Motorcycling.

 A Few Basics

Want to ride a motorcycle?
Well, it’ll take more than saddling up on a
bike and donning a motorcycle helmet to ride one.

A few basics you need to be kept in mind.

Failing to plan is like planning to fail. Wanting to ride a motorbike
takes a little planning actually. Part of the planning and preparation
is the driver’s self-preparation. He needs to realize first that he’ll
be riding a motorcycle that can have a mind of its own on the road. He
needs to realize that he’ll have to be responsible for himself first,
taking time to be cautious, careful, and mindful of safety by wearing a

motorcycle helmet, a jacket, boots, and other gear even.

The choice of the motorcycle is part of the preparation, too. The kind
of motorcycle will let the biker know what kind of wheels, controls,
accessories, chassis parts, and other aspects are built in onto the
motorcycle.

The biker will need to see what kind of wheels, spokes, and tires
are there, whether they are up to standards, roadworthy and all.
Looking
at the controls must include a check of the brakes, the throttle, the
levers and pedals. What about the oil and fluid levels? How is the
frame? It should be built for performance and rough riding if ever,
as should be the frame, suspension, the shocks, and even the engine
supports. The biker will have to check all these first before even
putting on a motorcycle helmet and getting on the bike.

Then comes the gear. motorcycle helmets are top on the list and so are the other

personal protective equipments. The motorcycle helmet should be suitable for the

kind of motorcycle chosen. Riding high-performance and high-speed bikes

for full speed highway cruising or a little racing entail wearing
full-face motorcycle helmets  and complete protection gear with jackets, boots,
vests, gloves, etc.

First-timers, novice riders, or the younger set
will make do with shorty  motorcycle helmets or even novelty motorcycle helmets and may forego
wearing the complete protective gear.

The kind of adventure will also determine the kind of motorcycle and
what goes with it. If the biker will just want to ride around town or
in the suburbs for a light tour, a cruiser motorcycle will do. To go with
this, an open face motorcycle helmet, a light jacket, and minimal protective
gear may suffice. But for an off-road race on a motocross, the rider
definitely needs a full-face helmet, maybe a flip up helmet with visors and
chin guards, together with safety padded jackets and vests, gloves,
boots, and the whole gamut of personal protective gear.

Bikers will need some training on starting a motorbike and riding it
around. This knowledge will have to be reinforced with basic safety
training, a full course on traffic safety regulations, and how to ride
defensively. motorcycle helmets notwithstanding, nothing can save a biker from
an accident but the right kind of training and prudent attitude in riding
a motorcycle. Riding in relatively full control of your motorcycle, your
faculties, and the external traffic factors will make or break the
motorcycle adventure!
